Unquiet Graves
Graveyards are far from quiet places.
Trees weep, embracing each other in the wind,
As rows of headstones, they witness our final hour,
And listen to the departed as they whisper.
Pain and suffering radiate from extravagant marble vaults,
A reminder, that death comes for us all.
Darkness seeps from abandoned sepulchres,
Haunting us with memories, promises and broken dreams.
Epitaphs, worn away by centuries of rain,
Decorated with moss and ivy,
And unmarked graves,
Cannot hide what shall not be forgotten.

Thanks so much, I had considered the effect you mentioned but I didn't think the audience I wrote for would have appreciated it. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment, I am grateful :)

I would have to agree with Tod regarding the punctuation, especially the commas, as line breaks indicate pauses. Commas can disrupt the flow of reading like potholes dis-aligning a automobile.
Other than that I truly enjoyed the piece. It has a melancholy mood that I appreciate. Cemetery is one of my favorite places to shoot and garner energy with something to say. Good work.

I really enjoyed this,
'And unmarked graves,
Cannot hide what shall not be forgotten.'
Even in death the unnamed are not forgotten...

stark shadows of trepidation are cast upon your poem,
the unquiet that the interred seek to leave behind;
yet somehow, there is enchantment...

To me, the poem focused on one's fear of his own demise and the fear of being forgotten,
having the graves scream the echo's of those who perished, but because they perished, I feel the graves are, finally, quiet.
Nice dark energy from the poem :)

Re: Re. Unquiet Graves
Indeed...and although I've always been surrounded by death and speak with the undead, my own end is something I still very much fear. Like a ghost I am desperately trying to hold on to all that makes me feel alive. I work many hours in solitude and live remotely, so perhaps I'm already a spectre. But the only way to assert my existence is through the words I write in the hope of being remembered. Forever...
