A Gaussian is what we call the bell curve - as in the saying: "his grade blew the bell curve". It is also known as Fourier Transforms or The Central Limit Theorem. Basically it states that the more times you observe a natural occurrence, the more the mathematical shape of said occurrences becomes bell shaped. Thus, the act of observation forces ocurrances into the shape of normality.
