Maiden of the Night

She looks down upon you
with tears in her eyes.
She wonders how to help
as she sits by your side.

She traces the scars
that map across your body,
she whispers I love you
but it's lost in the night.

Holding your hand
she wishes your pain away.
Her eyes look past the hurt
into what you desperately hide.

Her tears silently slip from her face
and fall to your body
leaving shining drops of hope.

When dawn breaks she fades away
leaving only traces
for you to hold on to.
