Makeshift Paradise

It’s a sobering way down from heaven
and a maddening claw up from hell
now that we’ve seen the worse of life
can we wake together in another time?
free from these reacquiring nightmares
no wrong or right, just you and I
finally taking our chance at peace

You're an angel with broken wings
burnt feathers from a demon’s heat
I'm a man cursed with an aching soul
wishing to take comfort within you
seems euphoria has always eluded us
still I feel your body, every smooth curve
and for a moment nothing else matters

close your eyes and drift away with me
releasing these chains we call heartache
we don’t need to be slaves to our past anymore
I’ll make love to you as we both envisioned
when our clothes fall so does our baggage
wrapping your legs around me as I carry you
taking you into our makeshift paradise
