Swimming

I am swimming in your sea of ice
Getting nowhere fast, or slow
I am in two minds, hot and cold
My head can’t make up its mind
One minute it’s sweating hot
The next, it’s freezing cold
The effort trying to swim forward
Makes me sweat profusely:
But the sweat turns to icicles
Despite my warm brow.
I feel like I am going to overheat
Then I feel positively hypothermic
Maybe I have some kind of fever
Maybe it’s your fault
Forcing me to swim
Before I am ready to tread
You have high expectations
For a recovering low brow
My only saving grace
I can’t drown in ice
