Redemptive Love
Almost ethereal in hue, your tiny blooms
Hide shyly in the grass like small fragments of sky,
Whispering of better places and kinder ways,
A happy land revealed only to true lovers.
Where love reigns supreme and fear and pain are unknown.
In better days we have travelled there together,
Walking hand in hand on verdant dew dropped meadows,
Leaving a trail of silver where our feet have trod,
Far removed from daily chores and sad memories,
Our hearts and minds united in transcendent love.
There we pledged our eternal love, and exchanged vows
Never more to be parted whilst the pulse of life
Beats in our veins, whatever trials we might know,
And in death to rise as one to heaven above.
Sadly it seems those days are gone, and promises
Made in all sincerity lie scattered and cold,
Trampled into dust, their bright splendour now faded,
As flowers plucked in joy soon lose their shine and die,
The dance forgotten, and only ghosts remaining
To remind us of the happiness that was ours.
The trials of life have hemmed you in, destroying
All the expectant hope that was your salvation,
Leaving you trapped in a bitter cycle of pain.
But I believe my efforts will not be in vain,
The shell within which you now hide not be too hard
For me to break through and release you from its grip,
And my entreaties will in time be heard again;
My prayers answered that you will forget me not.
Time has passed and my base fears have been proved groundless,
For the healing power of love has healed your heart
And in place of pain and hopelessness there is hope,
A miracle wrought by undaunted devotion
Even in the face of insurmountable odds.
Winter is over and shoots of green can be seen,
Pushing upwards through the dead and decaying leaves
That last summer were resplendent in their glory,
Dying only to return their life to the soil
For the cycle of new birth to begin again.
Soon the ground will once more be ablaze with colour,
And tiny stars of blue will signal their message
That true love will triumph over adversity
As we dance eternally in redemptive bliss.
Hide shyly in the grass like small fragments of sky,
Whispering of better places and kinder ways,
A happy land revealed only to true lovers.
Where love reigns supreme and fear and pain are unknown.
