My Hope
Do not tell me that I am perfect
Because that is all a lie. Tell me that I
Am a mess because we promised to collect
The truth. Do not promise me a blue sky
Because I know that there are so many
Storms to conquer. Give me another try
Because I make mistakes. Give me any
Sense of hope and faith. You are my lightning
And shining beacon. You gather up the penny
That only means something to us. I am tightening
My grip so I do not let you slip from my fingers.
Darling, you only are only heightening
My senses and I am lucky for that. What lingers
Behind cannot be erased. I refuse to feel
The darkness and splinters
That threaten to loom inside of me. You steal
Away all the bad days and times so I do
Not have to feel them anymore. You kneel
Before me and take my hand. Do not skew
The truth because you promised me that much.
We are becoming unstoppable. Come to
An understanding with me that such
A life may never exist, but we are willing
To try because we deserve more than a touch
Of happiness. You are coloring and filling
In parts of me that I did not know existed.
You are doing your best of fulfilling
This dream that is being forever twisted
And turned around in my untidy head.
You are the one who insisted
On taking care of me. The thread
That I was so willing to cut before
Is still hanging tight. I wanted to shred
It into pieces, but deep in my core
There is a completely different feeling.
I will hang on until I begin to feel sore.
Because that is all a lie. Tell me that I
Am a mess because we promised to collect
The truth. Do not promise me a blue sky
Because I know that there are so many
Storms to conquer. Give me another try
Because I make mistakes. Give me any
