Father To Daughter

Babygirl, life hasn't always treated me well
I've had my days that felt like a living hell
There's been debt, depression and loss of hope
Discovered the gift of poetry that helps me cope

Yet still I rise! Like a Phoenix in the sky
Cause baby, you're the apple of my eye
I abhor anything that makes you cry
The biggest reason why I didn't take my life

I'm setting the example on how to be strong
Even in the midst of not wanting to carry on
Giving you a solid foundation to stand upon
So that you stay uplifted even when I'm dead and gone

Doing all that I can little lady to be here continuing to hold you
Being your protector, comforter and blocker like I'm supposed to
Keeping you safely embraced away from the face of negative exposure
Simultaneously dealing with the emotional defeat of a pending foreclosure
