Waiting for the thunder.
The sun is brighter now than yesterday
the gentle aspen casting darker shadows
leaves dancing the rhythm of the breeze
as Phoebus rises to his noontime hour
brighter yet, shadows deepen beneath
the buzzing Linden as bees forage nectar
ants farm aphids, honeydew and sweetness
Welcome shade. shadows deepen as the
evening sun burns from a cloudless sky
angry that day is ended, his heat unwanted.
Reprise tomorrow, from the east he comes
bright again, dark shadows to cool
the tired herd beneath the Linden tree
waiting the thunder that will surely come.
