Thought Myself A Poet

 Once
I thought to be a poet
To show my skills
That the world would know it

I mastered Rhyme
 and Simile
That folks would shower praise on me

Yet when I put words out to see
Discovered some
  much better than me

Instead of endless accolades
Near brighter stars
  my own didst fade

Yet as I read those skilled and true
My own abilities slowly grew

And where,
Once I longed to be the best
I found my niche
And made my nest

No longer frightened
Embarrassed
Or scared
I freely expressed
What I once wouldn't have dared

With no longer a chip
On my shoulder
or chest
I discovered the art
for the sake of the art
And perhaps,
That is the real test
