Defying the Omen
Faith is both an honor and a curse
As your hand rests upon my ethos,
Mouthing of silent devotions first,
Supplicant in your fever's Eros.
To summon the balance of portent
From scarab oracles' age'ed stay,
That has you bargain for a life's rent
Of always, only just one more day__
For an urn of emblazoned frescoes,
With processions of bulls, and of maids,
Filled e'er white with ashes bright as bone;
Earnest to the marrow, it ne'er fades.

Somehow I imagine you have a golden repository hidden away for storing all the lovely words you arrange so beautifully. :)

This one will require multiple readings and contemplations...
the imagery is subtly stark... understatedly profound...
but to my reading list it goes...

Layered and complex it may be, but as you say, it feels deep to you, and perhaps as you reread the piece there might be a break-thru interpretation you make as your own. Thank you for coming by, and congratulations on your recent win!

Jade, ah faith and death...I ponder them all the time. You've written a profound conundrum. Brava!

I take the title as defiance of death as I read your poem, and the description of those ashes sounds like triumph, "bright as bone." Fine work Jade!

I could just bask within
your leaves for nights on
in.
So beautifully felt. And yes
faith is a whew.something
of a testing thing.
Love this my honey.

And millions will beg their deities for that one more day only to have them end up in that urn. Makes you wonder. No punches pulled in this piece and i love it. Of course I found it to be one more in a long line of wonderful poems, Jadey. Bravo.
