IT'S COLD OUTSIDE
Two days ago, yesterday and today,
It’s all the same,
I’m shut outside in the cold,
Morning to night,
I’m buried under the snow,
My breath is shallow,
My teeth shattering,
Feet and hands numb,
My heart skipping beats,
But there is no sight of your warm smile,
Only through the windows,
I hear your laughter radiating beauty.
Last week, this week and today,
It’s all the same,
No hot tea, brewed coffee or hot chocolate,
Only the taste of fierce cold,
No gloves, no boots, no coat,
The cold freezes my blood to ice,
Snow flakes, deep snow, foggy breath,
Are my companions day and night,
To my brittle knock on your door,
Your response are more locks and bolts,
Caught in the eye of a blizzard,
I’m freezing out of existence.
Today, tomorrow and days to come,
It’s all the same,
The damsel opposite you beckons to me,
Warmth and hot chocolate she promises,
To warm my blood and unfreeze my limbs,
A warm fire, a bed and a hot bath,
A luxury to a freezing guy in need,
But now and again I tell her,
You are unsure and taking your time,
But time I’m afraid runs short,
For her beacon tempts with warmth,
Only my promises hold me down.
