Dear child
Dear black child they say
Dear child of the mother some say
Dear child I choose to say
Born of ignorance and short sight
Yet conscious for ten seconds at a time
The time between the end and opening credits
You listen but have lost your hearing
You look but never see
Your beliefs and virtues based on propaganda
To ridicule your ancestry as uncivilised
Those less socially unaware voice out “Boko Haram”
“Boko Haram” defined for you as Evil
That the means never justifies the end
Their means unjust I admit
But can the same be said for their end
My question left unanswered for my thoughts are once again occupied
My seconds are up and the credits have served their purpose
I am once again a child of ignorance
Dear child of the mother some say
Dear child I choose to say
Born of ignorance and short sight
Yet conscious for ten seconds at a time
The time between the end and opening credits
You listen but have lost your hearing
You look but never see
Your beliefs and virtues based on propaganda
To ridicule your ancestry as uncivilised
Those less socially unaware voice out “Boko Haram”
“Boko Haram” defined for you as Evil
That the means never justifies the end
Their means unjust I admit
But can the same be said for their end
My question left unanswered for my thoughts are once again occupied
My seconds are up and the credits have served their purpose
I am once again a child of ignorance
