sparks to flames, flames to ashes
Together the two lit a spark
Over time it grew
Turning to a roaring flame
Growing out of control
It became a wild fire
Burning everything down
Trust, hope, love,
All burnt away in the flames
Soon the flame between them died down
All that remained was ashes
Not a single thing between them remained
And the spark between them was no more

this is a great use of the fire metaphor. it creates a feeling of closure.
