three word inspiration 2
( more of mine from the endless challenge )
primrose / poison / pelican
1: TRANS
Primrose garden tended
with such care,
only to have it laced
with poison.
Doesn't seem fair,
the way the gardener
toils in dedication,
adding brightly colored plastic
flamingos, which
queerly,
have attracted a pelican.
dusted, sounding, backwater
2: SLOW
The backwater country
Was always dark,
Even on sunny days,
The sounding of thunder
In a cloudless sky.
The villages were
Hard-pressed as the
Meager population
Slowly dwindled further;
The people, their dogs
The cars
Dusted
With failure & despair.
linguistics, weather, fasting
3: AIR
Back in the day,
when Ted
paid more attention
to what people said,
when he was more into
the linguistics of the
audibles they made,
He could
forecast the weather
by the spent air
he took into his lungs,
then expelled
when he'd soak in the tub.
But nowadays,
the pickin's are slim,
and best left ignored.
So Ted's been fasting,
and feels lighter for it.
blithe / shanty/ periwinkle
4: REALITY
By the interstate just south
Of the city of glass towers
And graceful manicured parks,
Was the sprawl of a shanty town
Where neither grass nor trees grew,
Beaten down to packed dust
Like the shanty dwellers.
Except for a blithe young sheila
Who's days were always spent
On the fringe of the city dump,
Picking flowers of periwinkle.
There were no flowers of color,
Not daisy nor daffodil nor glads,
As her bare feet padded the ground.
No violets nor iris nor blue bell.
But you couldn't make her believe.
She knew what she saw,
Of the things that filled her world.
Matches / seaweed / bear
5: MATCHBOX
The transient walked,
barefoot and cold,
along a coastline beach
When came upon
a tangled string
of seaweed washed ashore.
He shivered from
the morning damp,
gathered in a pile
And tried to light it
from six matches;
proved to be a bear.
