thimble

he sits across from her
suddenly irritated,
she doesn't know why
she has seen him this way before,
she senses
he is holding back,
afraid to disclose,
he drove hundreds of miles to see her...
and she's not letting him off
the hook this time

she sits back taking him in
'what is it?' she asks,
'what is it, (she gestures)
we are doing?'

he doesn't want to really say,
he's a nice guy ... truly
and he doesn't want to hurt her

she smiles at him,
(almost laughs actually)
"You can't hurt me,
unless I let you"
