Today
I sense an urgency in your voice
Like subtle little
raspy sirens
You hurt something fierce
Like the last fire coal
Like the last leg of winter
Pulling odds and ends
Towards your frigid body
You had so much time
To think it all through
You shouldn't feel so left out
Today
I sense a sort of longing
coupled with forgetfulness
And trepidation
And isolation
In your voice
When it all begins for you,
Where does it really end?
I sense an aura of apathy
And the times are changing fast
Like the last leg of winter
Pulling rain into spring
You're still sitting there
With a sense of urgency
Like the whole world owes you a favor
Like subtle little
raspy sirens
You hurt something fierce
Like the last fire coal
Like the last leg of winter
Pulling odds and ends
Towards your frigid body
You had so much time
To think it all through
You shouldn't feel so left out
Today
I sense a sort of longing
coupled with forgetfulness
And trepidation
And isolation
In your voice
When it all begins for you,
Where does it really end?
I sense an aura of apathy
And the times are changing fast
Like the last leg of winter
Pulling rain into spring
You're still sitting there
With a sense of urgency
Like the whole world owes you a favor
