Mind Map II
A lollypop and a plastic handled knife on the desk and all I can think is Speed and Hate. Oddly, neither are really the associations that the owner of said candy and knife would make if asked what they connected to. I remember Crocodile Dundee having a knife. It was a big knife. My dad never carried one until his later years, but then he made up for the earlier lack by also purchasing; a ten gallon hat, and a belt buckle the size of Texas with a preserved scorpion inside it to go along with the pearl handled knife.
We went camping a lot when I was little - we did a lot of hiking and walks with the forest rangers while my folks relaxed and tried to take a load off from the four of us. I never liked the ranger things they had the kids do - I was keenly aware of how much adults talk down to children at those ages. It seemed they all had sneers on their hippie faces.
Lollypops have odder, older references to candy machines at the store where you can put in some change and get out a treat or a sticker, I always loved the stickers!
My dad used to tell a joke about candy machines; he would hunker down and look in my eyes and say:
"How do Elephants hide in candy machines?"
I knew the answer, but I would say the punchline with him anyways.
"By painting their toenails!"
