ANGEL'S WINGS

ANGEL’S WINGS
( a sonnet)

My mirrored me stares back in harshest light
My beard breaks blades were never meant to shave
I pull my shoulders back, tear muscles tight
And turn to show the scars of what I gave

A bedroom shocked in plastic water cans
With lover’s hate that permeates the room
Again to feel their weight, those martyred spans
As tortured days, a weightless life, consume

I chose a life that all heaven forsake
What heaven’s blades removed, I gave to her
And pain’s reward, a heart she wouldn’t take
But soul she’d break, to love my pain prefer

Though now chained down in weighted earthly things
When I'm absolved I know I’ll grow new wings
