Is reality the physical world?
A creation of the hidden hand
Stimuli to derail the mind
Why can’t I find the gods people obsessively defend?
Let it begin the tv program to propagate power struggle
We’re fixed onto a screen that becomes our perception
Where’s the path to evolve and see beyond
Into the dimensions our celestial neighbors occupy
To travel upon a utopia dedicated to prosperity
All I see is division based on color and belief
A social ladder to fuel the ego and cause shame
Basic necessities monetized, natural Springs drained
Stories preached of righteous paths, yet none dare follow
The journey to the heavens is one full of hypocrisy
Life perpetrated by misfortune with the promise of a nonexistent kingdom

Hey AnaChronistic,
I really enjoyed your poem and your blunt, realism. The search for purpose can be quite maddening, especially for a philosophical or scientific mind. The part where you said "we're fixed into a TV screen that becomes our perception," is so true, and reminds me of something I wrote many years ago. I can't remember exactly how it went, but it was similar to this:
"When we are born, our minds are but a blank slate to be written upon by the world. Our perception is paved by the way it is told to us, a product of past traditions of the ones before us: the illusion of individuality."
Anyway, thanks for sharing this thought-provoking piece. Your vocabulary and your gift for writing made this one quite enjoyable to read!

I agree it reminds me of something my economics teacher told me in high school that weighs heavy in value. But, again as you said rings from the ideals of the ones before us.
My teacher asked the class two simple questions, “Who are you( who am I?). Do you believe in god, if so why?”
99% of the class simply stated their name to be who they are. Which, clearly is a lack of self-awareness. He said you are a collection of your experiences and thought processes influenced by the people closest to you. Which he tied into the next question. It being a Latin community school in Los Angeles, most people identified as catholic or Christian. He asked the students why are you Christian? Why do you believe in Jesus Christ? Who taught you about Jesus and Christianity? They would go on to answer my parents taught me about Jesus. I’m Christian because my mom/dad are Christian. He went down generations who taught your dad, grandad, great grandad etc. Etc., about Christianity? The white Spaniard who persecuted the meso-Americans and to survive they conformed to Christianity. Now, why do you believe in Christianity? The class lay quiet mind blown and now I share with you today what I was taught 4 years ago, interesting ain’t it?
