Image for the poem The Three Davids

The Three Davids

David, Oh David,

Beautiful are thou in the eyes of God;

One Man,

Sculpted differently in varying degrees

By three masters of cold hard stone

`~,,~`

Donatello,

Early renaissance master,

A bronze hero, sculpted in nude of sight

Young and ever posing

Self aware of his own beauty,

The symbol of David’s purity and faith in God

To protect against the sword and spear

The armor of Goliath

The triumph of the boy king,

The foot upon his head

``~~..~~``

Michelangelo

Master painter, sculptor, drawer, artist

David, oh David

The marble of your creation

And high Renaissance of grace

The political move over Papal sovereignty

The thinking David,

Relaxed and full grown man,

Michelangelo’s enlightenment,

The thinking mans time,

Perfected Renaissance philosophy

```~~~…~~~```
Bernini,
Master sculptor of many generations
Baroque art at is best
Marble in motion,
Sculpted at its best,
Divine humility
Simply clothed
In action,
Looking into the eyes of Goliath
Heavy stone, sling in hand
