I fled the church
Due to misunderstanding the verses
that were stuck in my head
and the women whispered
under their breath
and the church bells rang
as if to beckon me back
But I held on tight
and continued running
down the rainy street
towards a vacant alley
which would be my shelter from the rain
but they cut me off at the corner
and asked why
and I clenched my fists and closed my eyes.
I couldn't help but to get real loud
and I didn't ever want to calm the fuck down
I blew smoke out through my nose
and they didn't understand
how a dirty youth could deny them faith
So I spit more curses and said "leave me be"
but they did not comply, they just smiled and stared
I asked how could you deny me my own beliefs
They said you say nothing that moves me
I pointed to the pastor and called him out
and he gestured and pleaded for me to chill out
I swore and gave people the bird
and as I turned my back to them
I threw in an amen
