I'm Not Them

Your trust has been repeatedly broken and your spirit badly bruised
by lovers and brothers and so many others that were supposed to be there to love you

I understand you need time, and faith is so great if you are open and willing to try
but you may be old and alone,  heartbroken,  wondering why

I know you're well spoken,  driven and smart
but not regarding matters of the heart

Your logic will endlessly fight it
sad for me, it's unrequited

Please believe that I love you and will always be with you
through all that we have to endure
I will never hurt you,  lie, be unfaithful or leave you
my affections are with you forevermore

So your walls will crumble
and your guards will fall
because everyone knows
love conquers all

And I know sad love poems
aren't supposed to rhyme
so I promise,  this will be the very last time
