Blasted into consciousness
From a most peaceful rest
Shaking your head all over the place
The mirror laughs in your sorry face
Eyelids low and a smile long gone
You need to shave but your hands shake
So you plug in your coffee IV with intent to eviscerate
The coffee machine with all its drip-drip dripping
Your foot with all its tap-tap tapping
The clock fixed above you creates a crystal image
Making it clear that you better fix your visage
You know you need more sleep
But your day won't accommodate
You have some time to sit around
Thoughts of quitting abound
"Suck it up, pussy", rings through your ears
"You're 24 now, man the fuck up,"
It is pretty clear you've outlived your comfortable years
So you gulp down your coffee
Shave your long face
Shower your tired body
And pick up the pace
Slipping on your uniform
Tying your shoes tight
You never liked to conform
