It wasn't you who left me broken with these thoughts, contemplating angles never before seen.

The author encourages honest critique.
My instinct is that she knew you better than you knew yourself, and you simply didn't want to believe it. As though it would weaken your masculinity by facing your true identity. It's so hard for us to believe other's views of us, especially when they're beautiful. It should be the opposite.
