dare to bloom

she had been crushed
by love
like the petals of spent flowers,
once so full
and fragrant,
they sit on her shelf,
all their color diminished
to a coarse brown
crumbling at the slightest
touch

time after time,
leaving her bruised
and spent

rarely did she come out
to seek it,
she closed her eyes to it,
turned her head away
from it,
the pain of losing it,
wore too heavy
on her soul

yet it reached for her
and tucked her under its
protective wing
promising to keep
her safe

she began to trust in it
to open herself up to it
let it in
and fill her with all
the beauty and excitement
of it...
letting herself
breathe it in
her lungs and heart
filling up with it
bringing her back to life,

then it dealt her the deepest blow

all alone,
she feels herself
slowly dying inside

she crept
back into  the walls
of her heart
wrapping herself
in the closing petals
back,
back,

to where light
can barely enter
through
the cracks,
unsure she can endure
re~blooming ...

again
