Who Punishes the Government When it does Wrong ?
The government is supposed to punish evil doers(Romans 13).
In turn the people are supposed to punish corrupt rulers.
The prophet Elijah condemned King Ahab and Queen Jezebel
After to had a landowner killed so that they could grab that land.
John the Baptist imitated Elijah when he condemned Herod the 2nd
For marrying his brother's wife, etc.
The Church is supposed to be a watchdog over the government.
Ditto for the news media. So Christians should work at newspapers, etc.
Who is to guard the guardians? That's the age-old question.
Evidently, the power of the Church hasn't been enuff
to keep the government competent - for we have recklessly DISARMED.
As for the news media, it's been taken over by the entertainment industry.
In short, the American experiment in democracy
has failed because government has gotten out of control.
Well, it has not failed yet, but it's about to fail.
Certainly when Russia bombs us, our big cities -
because it has lost all fear of our retaliatory strike,
THAT will expose the failure of the American government.
PS: I don't want to close on a negative note.
God will reverse the Kremlin's victory(2 Thessalonians 2.7-8).
That's what the Second Coming of Christ is all about.
It will happen just "5 months" after Russian Attack (Revelation 9.5,10).
Post-war America will be a new, improved version.
That's one reason God lets the nuclear war take place.
People learn the hard way. But they do learn !!!

Thermonuclear Armageddon? A daunting prospect, but we can console ourselves with the certainty that someone will figure out a way to profit from it.

You're being cynical, no doubt. but you bring up a good point. Mankind will be purified by going thru the fire, like clay - the shape becomes permanent once it goes into the kiln.
People will ask, Why did God allow it? The answer will come back, Because of Western decadence, e.g.,abortion, porn,drugs, racism, sexual self-worship (homosexuality). Yes, after Christ Appears - which will be enuff to move Russian soldiers (invading Israel, Zechariah 14;Ezekiel 38-39) to overthrow the Russian Ruler of the world (Old man Gorbachev !!), Christ will go back to Heaven. But a religious revival will then occur which will be without end. Yes, just as the Nazi Holocaust had a role to play in the shaping of the Israeli character, in the making of "the fighting Jews," so too the Nuclear Holocaust will have an effect on the character of Mankind for a million generations to come. After Earth has been burned up due to the sun overheating, mankind will be safely settled in the rest of the galaxy. But Nuclear Holocaust will still be taught to school kids. So its effect will be permanent. And positive.
