that blanket
I see you lying there, my precious one.
Wild red hair- fine as silk
Frame you're beautiful face.
slender fingers grip that blanket
Holding it close.
And I remember
Watching that blanket take shape
Waiting in the doctors office
Click, click, click- needles tapping rhythmically
Listening to the nurse tell me
Everything was fine.
And I remember
Draping that blanket
across my tummy each night
Singing, laughing, telling stories
And I remember
Screaming while I held that blanket
Begging for it to stop
Praying for my life to end
That blanket must serve its purpose.
And I remember the months that followed
When I clutched that blanket close
I couldn't eat I couldn't sleep
I couldnt put it down
Now I see you lying there, my precious one.
Holding that blanket close.
And I see him lying next to you
And my heart breaks all over again.
I only wish you could see him too.

Frame you're beautiful face.

Holding it close.

Deeply felt. The pain and love are sung in verse which intrigues. You really do put your emotions into words here. Very superb writing.

I can relate to the mood almost everyday of my life. This was utterly beautiful and everyone who's ever dealt with sadness or a crisis should read this.

Heartbreakingly beautiful. You certainly took the reader in that room feeling every emotion.

Riotgirl, your well written pie3ce has, for some reason, made me profoundly sad. It did, however evoke in me fond memories of my children as babies. Brava!

Oh my heart tug sweetness...this kind of loss i cannot imagine...
I love the vaugeness of it...story telling through emotion ...and very fine. The blanket...a warm soft thing that is universal...brings an instant feeling that is perfectly used here.
Great piece dollface...
Love and respect

Reminds me of my daughters mother who died 13 years ago.
Reading poetry which evokes feelings in ourselves reminds us why we write. Thank you...

You fill this with great descriptions and powerful feelings. The use of the blanket helps to carry the reader through, but it is the amazing story and tone you have here that makes this a great read.
