Violets
And i thought she never loved..
Just carroused....
Auntie Vi...
My mother would look at me fierce When i was young and
Talked and talked about
The wild harlot in purple
Worn all the time...
I asked Auntie why once...
"Suits" she said eyes dancing...
And here i sit in Auntie Vi's attic by candle light...
The answer etched elegantly on three shale pieces in front of me..
A fine layer of paint the color of her tattered dress, always worn...
A Triptych of love...
Woman holding Woman in a field of violets...
Just carroused....

Beautiful,baby girl...
And I thought she never loved..
Just carroused...
I adore finding out things about loved ones, that shatter everything I thought I knew about them...It's a fresh perspective, and new found respect...like a reset button or something.

Really enjoyed the read Jen though I had to 'set it out differently' in my mind to fully get the flow of your words ...
Guess I became all the characters in the poem ... :)
Purple or shades of, is the colour for dignity ....

I loved the sentimentality of this piece. My favorite line:
I asked Auntie why once...
"Suits" she said eyes dancing...
it's the "eyes dancing" that doers it for me. That image invites me in to a secret place. Plus, there is the cryptic "Suits". adds a layer of mystery.
Well done. i love the subtly

I'm with Kate on this one. It is absolutely lovely once I figured out the flow of all the characters!
It is an intimate look at an intimate secret. Well done!

The song of your remembrance of this woman took me deep into nostalgia my love. The last line revealed the secret which held me in suspense. Soft pastel beuay enchanted me. This took me far back into a Lost World of the heart.
Love you and this one especially,

Nicely handled in all respects.
Stirred memories of a lesbian, Katherine Lee Bates, who wrote among other things the lyrics to the song "America the Beautiful." She was little recognized for her gender preference, but wrote several poems to her lover in a book called "Yellow Clover" (1922) a collector's item I once owned but had to sell during a period of utter penury.

Simply loved this piece for its delicate eloquence ... You say so much about all the relationships in so few words ... Truly wonderful

A truly fine portrait of your Auntie, Jen. You don't try to idealize her, but celebrate her vivacity. The "wild harlot in purple" sounds like a breath of fresh air to me. Excellent work!
