family matters

perhaps she doesn't have
the most eloquent tongue,
her parents should have just
cut it out of her
she was never allowed to use it,

all her thoughts, dreams, grievances, frustrations
desires, were spilled on paper
her emotions which she never dared to share,
perhaps they would have been horrified
at the things that ran around in the
corpuscles of her mind

instead, she used her silence
as a weapon
never allowing them to
know her true feelings about anything
she learned early
that anything she had to offer
mattered nothing to them

she was just their little girl
she was just there,
another mouth to feed,
another body to clothe,
another child to send out unprepared

into life...

even now,, they speak amongst
themselves, and wonder at her
mysterious behavior, they worry,
and they leave her alone...

until they want something
