Dumped

You
never
knew
You were the last tree
waiting to fall
before your island
was swallowed
by the storm

His calling card
a bleached heart
rendered slowly
with no emotion
or salt
until love wash-crumpled
and finally torn
sent him skulking away
while the stars muttered
Judas
I told you
I told you
so many times

And now life's busy signals
hound your calls
the cell a wand
of screaming thorns
a dumpster's hope
where memories crawl
while the dogs
bark bitter
stealing the night
