Shadow's Magnum Opus

stuck in the muck, the muddy mire
chained to a coffin, lit on fire
by hellish winds that never tire
she drinks the sweat hellhounds perspire

unquenched,yet drenched in salty tears
of the buried hope in wasted years
she walks away despite the fears
inadequacy whispers in her ears

she's pains best friend, this trauma queen
a glutton for punishment so it seems
deceived by things she thought would gleam
oh love "the precious" shining ring

around her collar, like a noose
the choking kind,yes  bitter truths
that have raped her since her youth
and butchered her spirit like brute

bending her breaking her
her dignity's death
no man could ever love her
hell even her daddy left

blaring sirens that scream pains of yesterday
chanting give, give, give... so he'll stay
never leave, no never stray
sadly ..love don't work that way

the hurt  lurks in her shadow like a stranger
rests on her shoulder in bitterness and anger
run girl run... you are in danger
your past is the bullet, your mind is the chamber

locked and loaded with past mistakes
she dwells in a hell her mind creates
cause there's nowhere to hide, there is no escape
from the repercussions of the choices you make

BUT even sturdy backs, gets tired of the load
a swirling cesspool,of shames commode
of all the bullshit she's swallowed
all the emotional baggage that she's stowed

seems she's become a hoarder of broken things
of useless junk, failed hopes and dream
all the bumps in the night
that lived in her screams

haunting her thru tears and fears
seems this monster she gave all power
in the shadows of her former self
her weary spirit cowered

until the day she found her true strength
risen from self prison and she is hell bent
to drop all baggage yet never forget it
but REMEMBER  IT as her freedom from self torment
