House of Echoes

I kiss this house on its poisonous mouth
Whenever I find myself about

Opaque windows letting little in or out
Checker walls that whisper back
Echoes ring from narrow hallways

Magic and mundane
Play on common ground
In this timeless house of an aging town

Empires turn to ruins
Whilst nursery rhymes chime on

Familiar creaks from familiar footing
Roam the staircase frequently
Ghosts of memory lighten darkened rooms
As I momentary return to me

For the wings must visit the roots

Pay the Past with Time
