The Great Blue Beyond
A fish
The ocean wrought me, a vessel to enchant its endless mysteries
I live a life as the most beautiful, the most outlandish of puppets
Every push-to-shove, pull-to-yank of the tides,
a string in the gracefully iridescent shadow of the great blue beyond,
I to be torn astray, ashore, alight
A fish I am, a child I mock
I am caressed by the cerulean womb that has encased me so
The world, my four gradient walls of sand, rubble, and careful strife do contain
Grandiose and effacing, discrete and discerning, oh my vanity, my keeper,
Every swim, a crawl; every wiggle, a stumble
Thing’s I’d not know myself better to as I head into all the great blue beyond
