Where Are You Flying Now (To Glenn Frey)

When biographies are written about
the world wide famous bands
all scribes will agree on one point
for Eagles Glenn Frey was the man
Yes he could be overbearing at times
pushing the group to a higher place
with the rising trajectory
some members where not enjoying that bright light's space
The teaming with Don of Texas made for intriguing times
crafting songs stretching beyond a country ring
Don seemed to pursue hybrids of genres
left the more twangy  tunes for Glenn to sing
But make no mistake Glenn was a rocker
with "The Heat Is On" he "Belongs To The City" big time
as I started my relationship with the guitar
"Hotel California" was never far from my mind
He would co-write songs that need no fences
orchestrate the mere act of being alive
like swan song of the Beatles
even with inner band turmoil he and Don would still thrive
For crafting the soundtrack of my youth
in memories you will forever stay
the most precious sound you guys gave me
is that haunting tale of the "Sad Cafe"

Poscript---- the definite article was intentional left out in mentioning the group. Upon listening to interviews I discovered that Frey refused to call the group "The Eagles", instead saying "Eagles"
