Corpse

sometimes
i drank
the abyss

incense burning
distant echoes
spirit hazy

i watch you transform
into a tree
rooted in patience

you are a mountain
your regal shoulders
the highest peaks

i am as unworthy to climb
the tree as i am the mountain
i can only gaze up at the summit

the mountain has no need for the valley
but the valley needs the rain
from the snow tops to sustain her

you are a warrior
a poised bow
graceful and able
a sphinx
laden with riddles
a boat
whose sail is always open

you move through sunset salutations
as seamlessly as the seasons

you are stillness.

but i am not a locust
or a cobra
or a fish

i am not a cow
or cat
or pigeon

i am a corpse
flat on my back
staring into space
tracing your chakras

when i look at you
i understand
