Untitled...tribute to Miss Emily Dickinson
Image..original manuscript of "Wild Nights Wild Nights" by Emily Dickenson
My Darlin Emily,
Funny Lady in still white
You retreated too soon
Took refuge in a room of words
And we were graced
By your self imposed exile
And i wonder of your dreams?
Did you Em?
Dream furious "Wild Nights, Wild Nights.."
Did you silently scream in dark
For his "Moor"
"Rowing in your Eden?"
Did you luxure in tempest's touch?
What did you know of those winds?
I pray more than breeze,
But fueling passionate power
I fear you flowered and felt
The "futile" loss of it
While you harvested "heart's port"
"Ah, the sea!"
Indeed Emily..
I prayed more than breeze
As I mapped my own seas..
I held your "compass" tight
And I was touched by you
And your many shores...
My Darlin Emily,
Funny Lady in still white
You retreated too soon
Took refuge in a room of words
And we were graced
By your self imposed exile
And i wonder of your dreams?
Did you Em?
Dream furious "Wild Nights, Wild Nights.."
Did you silently scream in dark
For his "Moor"

That's just fantastic Jen. I suppose you have her words to know of what she dreamed, but sometimes I guess that's not enough. Your poem is sad and joyful and it takes you on a ride of your choosing. Beautiful.

I can't exactlty say she had a sad life..
But miss Dickenson was a very eccentric woman..
Spent most of her time in her room..
Took to wearing white..
Rarely recieved guests at the end..
She only saw 12 i think of her poems published in her lifetime out of nearly 2000 in her manuscripts..
And those 12 altered by publishers to fit morality of the day.
A gal after my own heart...wrote what she wanted to write..not what was expected of her..
I love her works..this was a comp entry..
So pleased with these responses!
All my love darlin

Kate..thank you so very much..i write this a lot when someone puts me on a RL..and mean it..
But i especially mean it this time.
Deeply honored..
I love this piece..was unsure how it would be recieved..
How familiar people would be with her and her works..you validate me and it is very much appreciated..as your support and poetry always is doll.

My love I felt the breeze and was moved by your words for Emily. This is a real jewel. You took me into her world as only you could envision it. It takes a truly gifted writer to pen a poem like this. Emily would love this I am sure. ;-)
Your lover man who dreams only of you,

This is a wonderful and eloquent tribute to Miss Emily, Jen. I'm not too familiar with her work, but I believe you caught her spirit. Her line of "a certain slant of light" has always stuck with me. One detail: her last name is spelled "Dickinson" without the "e". No big deal. Other than that, great job!

A very interesting poem. And a very ambitious one. However, for me there are pockets of undevelopment where I didn't feel you carried your vision further enough into meaning nor expanded some passing imagery. I'd call it a sketch for a poem instead of a poem.Remarkable in any case. It got me contemplating Emily's sex life which I had never done.

I never point out or offer exact modifications to anyone's work. I respect too much a poet's private energy and talent to meddle in such a way. I make general remarks which can be mulled or not, whatever.
The folks here at the Haiku Erotic Restaurant are still talking about your spoken word debut. We all loved your vocal praise of "Marketa." This evening we are enjoying our usual Saturday night repast of braised calves, a dish I invented a few years ago when I was dangerously close to edging over to the wrong side of the law with my obsessive, uncontrollable fetish for human female calves. Every time I saw a nice pair I had to fight within myself to not be on them like a starving man!
Here's to a strong, scintillating New Year for Calamity's Special Star of Talent!
