The Song of Autumn
Melly Maillard had many children
In her house alone, she counted seven
She had three sons and three daughters
God forbid they see the water
She had three sons and three daughters.
When the rain poured they gathered a bunch
Of leaves and burned them on a hunch
The river chanted, Father won't be home
The autumn leaves have always danced alone
We have cowered in fear since this day
To dust turned the fields of poppies and wild hay
Wherever you be, whoever you are
Don't be the forgotten child of Melly Maillard.
Melly Maillard had many children
In her house alone, she counted seven
She had three sons and three daughters
God forbid they see the water
She had three sons and three daughters.
And my teacher said learn, oh, learn
Find a job, find a wife
Impregnate her, bring your kids to school then marry them off
Marry them off for good
Gather and gather
Learn to love what is bitter.
And she looked at the dirty sky above
She said « I still dream of you, Love
And your children are beautiful and strong
All our lives, we've only been wrong »
She trembles insanely since this day
She lost her mind, we went astray
Wherever you be, whoever you are
Don't be the forgotten child of Melly Maillard
And my teacher said learn, oh, learn
Find a job, find a wife
Impregnate her, bring your kids to school then marry them off
Marry them off for good
