Alone at the party

I'm surrounded by crowds, yet I am alone, a feeling that has made itself known. More often than not, my mind fills with thoughts. If I'm not careful, I shall drift away. 

Away from the crowds, away from the chatter, If I do so, I fear it won't matter. So I work my days, and suffer my nights, My mind will become my escape. 

Where I shall go, I'm not really sure, Although in body I shall be in one place, Inside my head, my mind shall race. Lost int he jungle, an agent of the law,climbing the cliffs, or in a bar brawl. The adventure I will take, and the sights I shall see. No one shall know, unless they are me. 

So I stare into space, to make the time fly, Although tonight I may nod and smile. In a dress thats too tight, and heels that hurt, my face set in stone, I can't wait to go home. But I play this play through, and will dance one more dance, I will smile one more smile and be gone in a glance. 

I am no cinderella, I will leave when I can, When this gathering becomes more than I can stand. I will say my goodbyes, and I will head home,Where I will be greeted and no longer alone.

They will talk tomorrow, how things went oh so wellAnd I will let them for their egos will swell.I will smile and nod, thats what they want.  Though few know my tricks to handle the night, They will say I was charming, and a fair sight. 

It is always the same to mix with this lot.To be in the middle, and yet out of the box. So I continue this charade, knowing it will happen more and more. Where my mind shall wonder then, that I am unsure.
