fearing fear
your hot, sticky breath
slithering down my neck
in a wave I do not like
my muscles tense
my teeth clamp together
eyes locked on the space ahead
to hurl myself toward
safe arms that betray me
for they have lead me
like a dog on a leash
crawling into the mouth
of the monster
I've feared for so long
now I'm trapped between
a rock and a hard place
and your ugly cackle
echoes within my bones

Fearing fear leads one to seek dark places to hide. Facing fear transforms the monster into a naked scaredy-cat trapped between a lie and a dark place... but I see a Kitty from Hell that Roars like a lion, warning away the treasonous one who offers deceptive embraces of empty cold comfort. The snake wearing a ferret's fur pretends to cuddle as it wraps its coils around the neck of its unsuspecting victim... Cut the head off the serpent before it sinks its poisonous fangs in to eat you alive.
