Our Yesterdays Lengthen Like Shadows

Shadow, oh shadow…

Our time’s so coy;
Congruence in mind.
We are stones in water
As ripples
Keep
Time

And you, my keepsake,
I’ve forged you from strife
In and out of sorrow,
Sweet morrow’s song
It sings

I tell you yesterday is where I belong
With memories of peace
And amatory pleads
Oh, These thoughts you will incite!

Tell me, darling,
Was it me that made you smile, darling?
Lovers bloom today
So that passing by with such dismay,
(Simper if you may)
Apropos delay,
(Where my passions stay)
Fervently betrayed,
(Gently so portrayed)
is to be for shamed

Have I done you much wrong in a life where
My yesterdays are where I belong?
Horizons block the light
Stars elope tonight
Things of beauty gone to waste!
(Where was my mistake?)

Tell me, darling –
(Oh, why me?)
Was I really worth your while, darling,
(But what have we gained?)
Or a vain display?

And Still…

The pleasure fastens
As the fantasies mature -
Such a keen reminder
For your own good

In a world when we can’t love today.
How I wish my love shied away
