ARMISTACE

[fon
ARMISTACE -
An armistice is a formal agreement of warring parties to stop fighting. It is not necessarily the end of a war, since it may constitute only a cessation of hostilities while an attempt is made to negotiate a lasting peace. It is derived from the Latin arma, meaning weapons and statium, meaning a stopping.

When I was just a little lad
My elders said that war was bad
They told how so many died
It seemed unreal I thought they lied

To think that people kill each other
A man and boy or child and mother
Political corruption and greed unfurled
Running rife across the world

Both world wars of one and two
No lessons learned for me and you
We talk about a world as one
But wars continue on and on

Wars guns bombs and tanks
The only winners are the banks
Armies playing with lethal toys
Lives are lost both girls and boys

Remembrance Sunday brings us all
A sense of pride to those who fall
At the Cenotaph with heads held low
We pray for those who rest below

It’s time we stood together now
To end these wars and soon somehow
We the people can find a way
To give real meaning to Armistace day
