Creating Emotion
I locked myself in a building
As I lit the fire I contemplated
Would I be reduced to nothing?
There is silence to fill the emptiness
I tried to break the silence with anger
But it only left sadness behind
Now I’ve created emotion from nothing
I looked outside the window
All I saw was smiling people
Laughter and warmth
I’m sorry, I really am
Those who don’t understand misery
Those who don’t know of sadness
They’re better off numb
They’re better off dead
I left the building and cried
I hoped that they’d die sooner than I
Why do I feel alive when I’m sad?
It is what lets me believe
That there is a greater power
If I set my heart alight
I can create emotion from nothing
As I lit the fire I contemplated
Would I be reduced to nothing?
There is silence to fill the emptiness
I tried to break the silence with anger
But it only left sadness behind
Now I’ve created emotion from nothing
I looked outside the window
All I saw was smiling people
Laughter and warmth
I’m sorry, I really am
Those who don’t understand misery
Those who don’t know of sadness
They’re better off numb
They’re better off dead
I left the building and cried
I hoped that they’d die sooner than I
Why do I feel alive when I’m sad?
It is what lets me believe
That there is a greater power
If I set my heart alight
I can create emotion from nothing
