Checkmate
Let’s just pack a thing or two
And get into the car
Drive away to an unknown town
Drive until we’re far…
Away from this terrible mess
The life that we created
Drive away to a strange old town
Where strangers are thoroughly hated
All the things we’re living now
All the needy people
Forever gone, a forgotten song
Are like the dead, just passively peaceful.
Our love has grown thorny
A petulant, cloudy sky
The rivers travel fast and dark
Every word from you a lie….
Every time I see you struggle
I see the darkness in your eyes
I fear the reaper coming in
I fear this last goodbye.
And get into the car
Drive away to an unknown town
Drive until we’re far…
Away from this terrible mess
The life that we created
Drive away to a strange old town
Where strangers are thoroughly hated
All the things we’re living now
All the needy people
Forever gone, a forgotten song
Are like the dead, just passively peaceful.
Our love has grown thorny
A petulant, cloudy sky
The rivers travel fast and dark
Every word from you a lie….
Every time I see you struggle
I see the darkness in your eyes
I fear the reaper coming in
I fear this last goodbye.
