a big cliche love poem
it's easy
to write about love, and loss.
emotions just take your hands and words
they fall like rain
to form sentences more cliche
than a metaphor about something falling
like rain.
yea, it's easy to write about heartache
sitting in dark rooms-
with a pen and a notebook.
feeling like a refuge from the 18th century.
because poetry is all about power.
and power simply can not
bleed onto a computer screen. the way that
ink can spread in veins and spots
to form words that mean nothing other than
the fact that you are alone.
and -oh my god-
it's so easy to write about love.
when your heart- before it's been broken.
or after it's been taped together.
yes- when that heart of yours beats out morse code
and spells her name right here on your chest.
man, let me tell you
a love poem just writes itself
so now. here. I am sitting.
with inspiration pouring through my body
in ways that words could never express.
and all my fingers want to speak.
are the letters that make up her name.
so I tap keys, to speak in keyboard talk
and my hands, they're lost-
because it's easy to write about the things
that push:pull you in ever direction.
it's the things that finally stop the friction.
and make you feel at home- exactly where you are.
it's that thing. when her name begs to fall
from the tips of these fingers.
it's that.
that leaves us.
right here.
because baby- poets are perfectionists.
and love to write in cliches. like:
my words will never be. as perfect as you.
