AMERICA OWES A TREMENDOUS DEBT TO MEXICO

We have a "special relationship" with the UK,
The mother country from which we get most of our cultural values.
We have a "special relationship" with France,
Which helped us win the American Revolutionary War.
(In 1781 the British army was on the beach,
ready to get picked up by the British fleet
And transported down to the southern colonies.
But the French fleet came in between the two parties,
Forcing General Cornwallis to surrender!
Thus bringing an end to the Revolutionary War!)

But there is a third country that we should
have a very "special relationship" with - Mexico !!
But we have neglected to give Mexico its due.

In that song, "America the Beautiful,"
There are those words, "From sea to shining sea,"
Referring to America's extending from the Atlantic
All the way across the continent to the Pacific Ocean!

If it hadn't been for Mexico's selling us California in 1848
We wouldn't be able to claim California's coast line!
So in a way, we wouldn't extend from "sea to shining sea" !
We owe a debt of gratitude to Mexico for selling California for pennies,
Only fifteen million dollars - only pennies per acre.

Plus we won New Mexico, Arizona, etc. by going to war
With Mexico in a war of aggression.- such raw aggression
That Congressman Abe Lincoln had to denounce it.
Yes, that war was responsible for the premature termination
Lincoln's career as a US Congressman after only one term.

We have the chance to make it up to Mexico,
like Lincoln would most likely have favored,
By allowing MORE legal immigration from Mexico,
Let immigration be free from its present strait jacket!

"America, America, God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood,
From sea to shining sea," wrote Katharine Bates, 1913.

And in the name of that brotherhood,
Let the border with Mexico be opened,
Enough to let in twice as many legals as at present.
No, make that three times as many Mexican brothers and sisters!
