Fire Signs
I used to be your fantasy—
Memory of a younger day.
Until you met the rest of me,
Now no more look at me that way.
Oh, it could have been Fate's design...
Never in life felt love like this.
Still, when you dance a fire sign,
There's no getting over its kiss.
Even as rivers of hell rise
To wash with flame your wayward soul,
In your head you still see those eyes
As all earthy ambition slows.
To detriment of sovereign wills,
Where stubborn pride won't step aside;
It's but the blood of love that spills,
For something you could have let slide.
That need to control all facets
Of those you love you never see,
Until the friction brings ashes
To all that once was you and me.
The banner raised, I stand unfazed...
Ultimatum ever ignored.
Look to the blaze, both eyes aglaze
At silhouette I so adored...
At hate brought forth from depths of love,
Watching eyes glow with fevered spite.
A seethe I'll never rise above,
The words curse me unto the Night...
Till morning's rising sun finds you
A day, a month, a lifetime passed,
Haze on eyes yielding not a clue
You ever felt something so vast...
Yet not all slips to silent grace,
A man can only get so high.
As the fingers still trace her face,
On rim of glass, drinking to die.
Everything lost to a spell cast,
You never again speak that name.
Burnt, knowing it could never last...
Still deep down long to dance that flame.
