precious

across the glass table you were there
in the plain
in the light of the large open space
and you looked at me
to the innards
and calmed them
of their swelling
like no one else had managed
the wind blew through
the draping over the windows
the sort of draping you would hate
and there is a guiltiness
for bringing you
to a place we would
have to compromise
me of my smoking indoors
you of the public setting
we hold each other
across the gap
by the wrists
there is an urgency
to consume the best
of each other
to bring out only the good
in the other
there is so much love it could crash at any moment
if we were not so good
at keeping a balloon from touching the ground
