Unwanted Sacrifice

 Maybe if I had blue eyes calm like water and crystal clear
the bad man would've never came for me
he could've looked in my eyes and saw the the wrong in his actions momma said that my brown eyes are my best feature
big pools of chocolate curious and hidden among all of the night's creatures
but my brown chocolate beauties wasn't enough to stop him from planting his seed
Wasn't enough to fulfill his need to be wanted
so now I call him Edward Scissorhands cause after I finally tied myself together with the string of self self-respect I had left he came around and cut the cord
all of this chaos and pain because Mr King and his dream
I never asked to play with the little white girls all dressed to look like Shirley Temple in dresses the color of fresh whipped cream
I didn't ask for Mr King's dream but mama been saying his dream has been asking for me
Along with tear gas and white men with dogs and masks
And the Bad man that cornered me coming from Midnight Mass
And when I cleaned up the mess he'd made of me i climbed into bed ignoring the pain between my thighs and I shivered much like a teacup in an earthquake
much like the world after they watched what happened in Selma will I die here........did my heart consent to something my bones won't become a sacrifice to
when will the world learn that there are no secrets that time does not reveal
and maybe then both me and the country will heal from the violence and destruction of the bad man and his friends with the pail skin
blue eyes and guns and knives unmaking little girls with bombs and venomous words
