Making the NBA
They told me I won't ever make it
because of the race I am because
I'm the colour of shit but that
negativity never got to me, my mom
wanted me to study a career
because she thought I'd quit
but little did she know I put
day in and day out just to get
basketball fit. The world was against
me, in seventh grade my " friends"
put me down and I would be last pick
I would hardly be on the court
but for the love of the game I would
hit and I would hit until I finally
got respect from my "peers"
I started smoking when I didn't
make the basketbal team, they told
I was too small for the position
they hoped for even though the
coach said I was the worst player
to try out when he knew I dedicated
all of my summer for the game,
and now I sit outside of work
smoking cigarettes wondering
if I could've made the NBA.
